Ideas for Content & Storytelling

Your customers are on social media, and they expect you to be there too. Most small businesses have a presence on platforms like Facebook and Instagram, but many often struggle to come up with ideas of what to post. The good news is that content marketing doesn’t have to require a lot of time or effort - here’s some easy ideas of how you can keep your social media presence active.

  1. Snap a photo during your day-to-day work routine and post it. If you’re an attorney, take a selfie in front of the courthouse as you’re walking in; if you’re a shop owner, capture a dramatic shot of boxes piled up on inventory day. Your audience will enjoy seeing what you’re up to.

  2. Ask your social media audience for their opinion. Have a (non-critical) business decision to make or a new product you’re considering offering? Just ask your beehive— your followers! It could be a post or you can use the various survey features in Stories (Polls, Question, Ask A Question) to get immediate responses. Companies pay thousands of dollars for user research, but getting feedback this way is free!

  3. Link to articles with information related to your business that will benefit your customers. They see you as the expert, and they’ll appreciate you sharing industry knowledge with them.

  4. Offer a simple message of inspiration. We see interior decorators often share images of beautiful living rooms and bathrooms, which piques their potential customers’ interest in remodeling and ties their expertise to a stunning result. What could this look like for you?

  5. Share something personal. Share background about your company history, your founders, or your values - this is a great way to tell the story behind your business and inspire trust.

  6. Reshare content from your customers. If a customer posts on your page about what a great job you did or shares a photo of your product, be sure to repost this and take advantage of the free testimonial. This is the easiest tactic of them all, and perhaps the most influential!

We hope you will try out these ideas and test with different types of content and topics to see what resonates with your audience.
